This week I’ll be heading to the Virginia PTA Conference in Richmond with our founder, Scott. We’re excited to exhibit StartingPoints to the PTA officers, volunteers, and leaders at the conference. We’re confident that StartingPoints can help make their lives easier, so we want to share it – and we’re looking forward to getting direct feedback both on the product and how we can help these volunteers solve their problems.
A few years ago, I attended the state conference as preparation for my second year as PTA president at my son’s elementary school. I hadn’t been able to attend before my first year as president, but coming in with experience meant I had some answers as well as questions. That enriched my discussions with other PTA officers from around the state. And while the formal sessions and workshops had some great content, I think I got the most benefit out of informal discussions with other PTA leaders. Being able to share lessons I had learned helped me realize all the things we were doing right. Being able to learn lessons from others who’d successfully navigated the tricky situations I was facing gave me valuable, timely insight. And simply knowing I wasn’t alone encouraged me to keep going. Solving any problem can be tough, but knowing that others have been able to find solutions can be the best encouragement.
This week, I want to be able to let other PTA leaders know that they don’t have to go it alone, either. They can find fellowship as well as great ideas from the others at the conference. And I hope they find that at the StartingPoints exhibit booth, too. We know the tension that can arise as you wonder whether anyone saw your email asking for volunteers. We know the temptation to say, “Oh, I’ll just do it myself” when no one responds. But we can offer more than just sympathy – we’ve built new technology that will tell you whether your message was received, and help you get the responses you need. If you’re in Richmond this weekend for the convention, stop by Booth 35. We’d love to give you a demo. And if you have ideas for other things that would make your life as a PTA volunteer easier, let us know. We just might be able to build those, too
